Im just loving the seed stitching and French knots, picking out the different shades of greens from the embroidery threads.
When I had the chance to, I had a good rummage through the boxes on top of the wardrobe shelves to see what I had there and had a nice surprise in finding more threads.
I hope you are all not too cold and getting on with some of you much loved crafts, not feeling too cold.
I have been playing round with a few ideas. I wanted to use the Holly King and the Oak King so got Jim to pose for me in some photographs. I drew up the design idea, the next challenge will be to draw up and paint the design on fabric. Ive got some new vilene to try, which said suitable to paint on and use in quilting. The challenge will be to work on the light box for several hours tracing the design on to the specialise cloth, do let me know what you think. x
I had to go on a course of oral steroids and thankfully stay at home rather than go in hospital to on an IV drip of steroids. Im starting to get back to my usual self in stitching.
The piece of work here that Im showing you is an experiment based on the idea of the gorgeous texture of Moss. About two years ago when I went onto a batik course at college, we did loads of small samples. Some worked out and some didn't. With the background on this cloth the blue washed out and only showed a very pale blue background. I had that mad lightbulb moment what to use this small piece of fabric for. I backstitched round the edge of the pale blue then seed stitched all different greens. Ive still got a lot to do but Im really enjoying this experimenting stitching.
I painted acrylic inks for the background.
UFO sss

When cutting out the stars, Jim mentioned that he would like UFO s to go on
the quilts next to the stars. So, over the last few days I've been searching round
for images of rockets and UFOs thankfully the Internet has given me a lot of ideas.
I bought some grey material from a charity shop to cut up for applique and
bought some glittery fabric paint to have a play around with. Outside its a gorgeous
gorgeous sunny day but I'm feeling really tired and drugged up thanks to my ms.
I now have two garden chairs outside so that I can sit outside and stitch, paint...all fun fun fun.
Hope you all manage to have some fun too and get creative for the weekend,.
I must admit this is a huge challenge for me as Ive always done any sewing by hand.
A few years ago we got this quilt top from Ebay and I decided to have a go at
applique-ing stars using the machine blanket stitch. When I showed Jim the quilt top
Jim said he'd like some UFOs on here with Jim being mad on them an absolute UFO freak.
I took some pictures of a few items that really caught my eye and gave me some ideas. The needlework which really spoke to me and just my style were some things that Id love to have a go at and do something similar. I bought a tiny heart with a pink ribbon stuffed with lavender and a beautiful tiny hexagon needle case that really pulled my heart strings, they always do.
A week has already flown and I said to my Jim I really must down load some photos for my blog.
On the Tuesday mornings I still go to my one to one knitting classes and on a Wednesday, Ive been making an effort to take my Pfaff sewing machine to my friend Jean's house so that I could get used to using it again after a long non sewing spell.
I'm pleased to note that last Thursday while the weather was throwing it down with rain, I managed to sew up two fleece shawls for Jean and her friend. My mum made me a fleece shawl cut from a large square with the tips folded back that made pockets. When the nights have been chilly this has been my best friend so I thought it would be a good idea to practise using the sewing machine again.
Jean was really please with her shawl and I'm sure the lady who Jean will be seeing next Monday will be pleased too. Hope you all manage to have a creative weekend will try and write again soonx

Its time I started to make more effort in the Blog Emporium World after quite a long break, but just didn't
realise how long I had been away. (sorry folks). For the last couple of weeks I had been busy learning how to knit again and challenging the art of sock knitting. Each Tuesday depending how my MS is behaving, Ive been going down to a wool shop for one to one lessons how to do socks. I managed to knit with two needles but to knit with four or five needles is still taking some getting used to.
Jim my partner had been begging me for weeks and weeks would I make Jim a new wallet and mobile phone holder?. With the help of my wonderful friend Jean, Jean helped me make a pattern from the old
tattered case.
With Jim kindly being the taxi to lift my new heavy Pfaff sewing machine onto Jean's work table, some how we conjured up the magic of the new wallet with the chosen bits of spare material from the fabric stash.

I had to learn all over again how to switch the sewing machine on, to sew. As the wallet had a loop design at the back, I needed to learn how to do a button hole stitch on
that new sewing machine. My goodness, I was really impressed.
I'm never going to be far away from my sewing machine for great lengths of time ever again.... so, with that buzzing in my little head, off I went to the Leicester Fabric Guild.
Whilst at the Fabric Guild I bumped into another lady who I had not seen for ages and was very saddened to hear about the passing of one of my group sewing teachers called Daphne. I was pleased to learn that the Thursday's craft group is still carrying on but making items for the Church Bazaar which Daphne tried so hard to get everyone to do, so watch this space everyone.Faithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06910528414956550663noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6156940896341092940.post-25722503745285081932013-01-29T23:26:00.002-08:002013-01-29T23:26:48.371-08:00Knitty New SocksIve not written on this blog for absolutely AGES....... as Ive been so addicted to learning how to knit socks. Knitting has been a nice change from everything else in the arts and crafts world and I'm sure all of you know just sometimes you need to have a change of crafts or hobby so that you can recharge your batteries.
This week Ive got the horrible chesty cold, so didn't go to my knitting class that I usually go to on a Tuesday. Ive been going to a crafts shop in a village to have one to one knitting lessons with a fabulous lady who has been teaching me me how to knit socks.
For years I have been wanting to learn, but just could not find anyone to teach me.
I was so so thrilled when one lady was willing to take me on.
Each pair of socks that I have knitted on a pair of needles, are improving while I get the hang of knitting again. A couple of weeks before Christmas I promised my Jim that I would knit him a couple of socks. Ive been learning to knit on two needles and now learning to knit on four.
I have posted some more photos.Faithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06910528414956550663noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6156940896341092940.post-12337260225865086012012-12-08T06:59:00.001-08:002012-12-08T06:59:49.002-08:00HorayFinally the big computer is working again thanks to Jim mending it, so now I can work on my blog again.
Ive been doing something completely new and different over the last couple of weeks.
On a Tuesday Ive been going to one to one knitting lessons in how to knit socks.
I have always wanted to learn how to knit socks, so one lady very kindly offered to teach me one to one how to knit socks using two needles. I managed to complete one odd sock. I found that this sock fitted
Jim's foot better than mine as I have really narrow feet. So for Jim's Christmas box, he said he wouldn't mind a couple of pairs of knitted socks. So over the last couple of days Ive been collecting balls of wool when ever I get the chance to buy some.
I was really pleased when the Quilter's Guild sold balls of wool as well as quilting material so that saved me having a look round town which you can imagine is really really busy at the moment all to do with the Christmas magic and mayhem. I had to smile when I read on one blog that one likes to hibernate over the Christmas mayhem. Ive been hibernating in my little white room sat next to the window and the radiator to keep warm. Yesterday Bongo thought it would be such fun to chew my knitting needles. One bamboo needle I couldn't save but the other pair or 2.75 needles,,,, Bongo had chewed the wooden nozzles off the end. This morning I had a brainwave to glue some beads at the end of this pair and it worked. Its a good thing I bought oddments of beads and jewellery to cut up from the car boot sales last summer. So even though my Jim moaned and groaned about some rubbish I bring home, some of it, does come in handy.
Ive been asking Father Christmas and the fairies for some hand dyed 4ply wool. Are they listening? oh I hope so,..... well Ive got to get ready to take the hounds out now for their mad run on the field but I'm looking forward to catching up with all of you in Blogland.
The main big computer
that I use for posting photos and sorting them out is just not working at the moment.
Elder man here, says that we must wait for a new disk as a back up after Windows 8 was
down loaded and made the original computer all go wobbly. So I've been having to manage with
the weenie minnie laptop I call it which I don't like but there you go, beggars can't be choosers as the saying goes.
I just can't wait to download you the pictures of the envelope finished off to show you.
Leigh who I was doing the card and envelope for, received the finished items and was delighted
with them which is great, Leigh said they bought tears to her eyes. I'm so glad that all my hard work
on the card and the envelope did the job.
I'm now working on a Christmas stocking, Ive drawn out the design, made my bank card cough and
splutter stocking up on Steff Francis threads and paints. Hope you're all managing to keep creative and keep
warm.Faithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06910528414956550663noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6156940896341092940.post-27005378238969189442012-10-30T11:47:00.000-07:002012-10-30T11:47:56.731-07:00More In ProgressMy heart goes out to everyone in America and some of those in Canada coping with the aftermath
of the terrible storms. I've got the TV news on at the moment showing all what has been happening.
I've done just a little bit more on the envelope design of butterflies. I've got two more butterflies to paint, I might leave the leaves and berries just as they are so that all the eyes are drawn to the butterflies but we will see. Let me know what you think.Faithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06910528414956550663noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6156940896341092940.post-11578303552584797712012-10-27T07:30:00.000-07:002012-10-27T07:30:14.040-07:00Butterflies and Berries

Finally I placed the board on the little table in my white room and started painting on the fancy envelope.
While Jim is working I'm finding that I'm enjoying working in the little room as its warmer and can concentrate more there. Scruff sleeps under the table on the little makeshift bed of a quilt I got for her a while ago.
Scruff, Bongo and Jazz sleep on the bed. When its that cold..... we all huddle together.
It takes a while to get into the spirit of painting when Ive not been doing this for so long.
I found some liquid acrylics that I'm finding brilliant for the job. I did the first coat with a wash of yellow.
The background is now being worked on sort of a dark turquoise. I know I have watercolour tubes there, screaming to be used but always get pulled to the liquid acrylics. I paint a bit then turn the board round.
I will certainly let you know how the painting progresses. The weather is extremely cold, staying upstairs sitting next to the radiator is the only way to keep warm and cuddling all four dogs together on the bed.
I have finally finished the card and now will be working on the envelope design. I have got the envelope
sketched out using my light box mainly of butterflies and leaves to have fun with. I'm hoping to work with watercolour and coloured pencils, mixed media, to have a play around.
Last night was band practice but had to go to bed and leave the guys and dolls to it as I ached like mad and just had to lie down. All afternoon I had been working on my hexagon coat again under the watchful eye of my friend Jean who has very kindly offered to help me make the coat up. I still have a long way to go.Faithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06910528414956550663noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6156940896341092940.post-25036326063289762302012-10-16T15:48:00.001-07:002012-10-16T15:48:07.088-07:00Bongo and The ButterflyThe Delicate Butterfly.

As you can see, Ive been working on this butterfly much more since last post,
Ive made the butterfly 3D so that it would appear to be lifting out of the card.
At the moment Im working on this butterfly for a card for another lady with MS like myself.
Ive got to stitch the other side of the butterfly then carefully cut out round the edge sewing to another piece of material. After this Im hoping to use wire, I will definetely let you know how it all works out. This will be simular to the black and white butterfly I did for a postcard swap a few months ago.
Scruff woke me up at five am (thank you very much Scruff). Once Ive been woken up I can never get back to sleep so I just got on with some hand quilting then when the time came to about 7am, me and Scruff went to the car boot sale over the road and found some great bits of clothing even better than from items from the charity shop. Here Ive posted some pictures from the Quilt fest of miniature hexagons. My group loved seeing these too as almost everyone have been having a go at hexagons in my Thursday group which has been great fun.Faithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06910528414956550663noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6156940896341092940.post-2414735830438581882012-08-18T14:23:00.002-07:002012-08-18T14:31:10.505-07:00The Quilt Fest at the NEC 2012
Finally I did it, I entered the waistcoat that I did for Jim. I didn't win anything but does it really matter? the main thing was that I took part and that I have always wanted to enter this particular show. I went with my friends from my Thursday group and oh what fun we had. There were so many yummy things but I was good, I just bought some quilting threads mainly the YLI threads of the Rio De Janeiro colours, some quilting needles and some paraffin wax to stop the threads from knotting. Ive taken loads of photos so you will get to see lots of pictures over the next few days.Faithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06910528414956550663noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6156940896341092940.post-11548359913712760652012-08-13T08:52:00.002-07:002012-08-13T08:58:57.163-07:00All Around My Hat
Finally I have completed the front of this postcard. All I need to do now is the binding and the
back of the postcard. I had to go back to the sewing shop where I got the glittery binding as the metallic on the binding had come away, so went back to the shop to take it back. The shop was very good, took the faulty binding off the shelf and let me choose something else. Over the last few days while watching the closing ceremony on TV, I stitched the beads on the background and did a bit more work on the hat as you can see. All Ive got to do now is the binding and the back of the postcard.
Faithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06910528414956550663noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6156940896341092940.post-34789784556417265142012-08-07T08:09:00.004-07:002012-08-07T09:09:30.379-07:00Scruff and lots of Stitchings.
Tonight, all the hat shapes and the dress with sparkles will be sewn down, stitched round the applique shapes. I'm really pleased with the hand quilted background.

The face and the top of the hat had been stitched in Long and short stitch. To my horror I realised that this paper doesn't like being painted on with water based paints or alcohol so had to draw on felt instead which is why it took me so long, and so late with this project.

As you may have read from some of my earlier posts, some days I have good days with this MS and other days where I'm just so tired and aching a lot that I have not been able to do much.
The last three to four days were days where I just wanted to get so much stitching done but had to make do with doing a little bit here and a little bit there. Ive been a bit slow working on the postcard theme of hats for the stitching Fingers postcard swap. I'm pleased to say that I don't have that much more to do now. Ive just got to stitch round the hat, do the ribbon decoration that would be like a little mini rosette with a button sewn in the middle. I think tonight I may get the backing and the binding done round the edge.

I embroidered the face going round in circles with a stem stitch using variegated pink thread. I wanted to come away from my usual little mini needle point so experimented doing freehand embroidery. At first I drew some sketches on paper then traced the design onto some felt.

The brim for the hat was embroidered separately on another piece of felt using purple metallic embroidery thread which was fun. I'm hoping to use tiny little purple seed beads on the hand-quilted background. I will certainly let you know how this progresses on.

Unfortunately very late last night, Scruff was laid at the top of the stairs, one of her usual spots while I'm reading late at night in bed and cant sleep. Rachel went into the bathroom, shut the door and got Scruff's tail trapped in the door. My poor baby yelped and ran onto the bed with a bleeding tail, the very tip was open and you could see a bit of bone. It was a horrible accident.

We took Scruff to the vets today for them to have a look at it. The vets gave Scruff some anti-biotics and some painkillers, and decided that it would be better to stitch the nasty wound tomorrow, it would just be too painful to wrap it today and to leave it open, The would does look nasty bless her. While watching her today I did get a lot of stitching done while Scruff was in and out of pain and sleep. Don't you hate it when your babies have these horrible accidents and hurt themselves! I will certainly let you know how Scruff gets on and my sewing too.

Hope you've all been able to do a bit of sewing too.

Faithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06910528414956550663noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6156940896341092940.post-4385785886288814562012-07-26T09:26:00.002-07:002012-07-26T09:44:25.053-07:00Summer Visits

Finally after so long, I got to see my mum and dad after so.... long. I wanted to make sure Rachel and David was home before I make any trips up to Sheffield. It was lovely to see my mum and dad.
We visited the Homebase centre which is like a DIY store. We bought loads of plants mainly

Strawberry plants growing fruit and looking for a home, some tender love and care.

These plants will go right at the side of me where I like to stitch and paint outdoors in the garden

when the weather is lovely. Next to the Homebase store is Hobbycrafts where there are loads of yummy items, fabrics, paint, craft goodies. I just got some small artists trading cards being sold in packs that measure at 2.5 x 3.5 , some small ribbon roses for a textiles postcard I need to work on.

We ate sandwiches in the car, then drove mum across the city to get a specialist belt for dad's lawnmower that had broken. I didn't buy any fabrics as I have so many quilts waiting to be finished, and so many quilts waiting to get started on, mainly for the children, all my great nieces.
Faithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06910528414956550663noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6156940896341092940.post-78082185590316585592012-07-23T12:22:00.002-07:002012-07-23T12:32:37.943-07:00Summer At Last
I must admit that for the last couple of days Ive had a mental block where I just couldn't get on
with anything. So all I could do was just rest, look through magazines to try and get some inspiration. I found a an applique quilt block that I had done along time ago just as a practice piece so decided to do a bit of stitching on this where I had drawn the outlines with a fine pen. Naughty I know but it was a practise little piece and Ive still got a lot to do, to learn, to stitch.

The weather has been glorious and hot. It was nice to put on some suncream and shorts and really make the most of the sun which should of been here weeks and weeks ago instead of all this rain.

I took the freezer paper out from the back of the tree. I wont work with freezer paper again, but you have to use these things to have a go at and see whether is works for you or not. Now that I have the wash away applique paper I don't need to use the freezer paper. I hope you are all having fun and managing to get on with some creativity.
Faithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06910528414956550663noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6156940896341092940.post-82795555306268364942012-07-13T03:27:00.002-07:002012-07-13T03:45:27.581-07:00Small Boat Sailing
Finally I have been able to update my blog. I couldn't really post anything more about this tiny textiles trading card until I had stitched some more. I have added just a few beads being careful not to add too much as its so easy to get so carried away and find that you've done a little too much.
It can be like that with paintings, drawings too, knowing when to stop without the feeling of "Damn, Ive spoilt it!" At the moment I'm sewing round the edges so that when I glue the back card you will see that the fabric round the edges have been sewn too. Its a lot of work but worth it to make everything neat and enjoyable for the lady that will receive this. My master of all tasks (my partner Jim), very kindly cut the mount board for me when my silly MS fingers couldn't hold the scalpel or the metal ruler. Thank goodness I keep holding the thread and needle, stitching every day so that I can keep my fingers flexible but some tasks they say a no no too.

The dolphin beads came from a home made necklace someone had done from the car boot sale that was very cheap. I thought these were the perfect little beads to add on the little card.

My favourite is always stitching with the variegated threads, I'm always adding just a little bit more to my collection.

The weather is blooming wet heavy rains and grey skies again, but we cant do anything about that, my magic wand, some twig Scruff bought me from out of the garden won't do anything.

If only it could.

Ive added my name to more wonderful blog pages meeting other needle workers, crafters and artists, what fantastic fun the blog world is. Scruff has just reminded me that she wants to go out, so I must sign off now. I hope you all have a good creative weekend and keep dry.
Faithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06910528414956550663noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6156940896341092940.post-31451765481215366312012-07-06T10:44:00.003-07:002012-07-06T10:56:12.717-07:00Lone Boat Sailing
Ive been busy over the last few days but when I did get the chance to sit down and stitch,
Ive been working on this tiny needlepoint of a textiles trading card along the theme of boats.

Ive yet to finish off this small card then stitch on some beads I had found at the local car

boot sale. The beads are of tiny dolphins and what a lucky find, so in with the boat theme,

the sea, fish....boats and yachts of course. There had been a happy accident, I did draw on the

canvas what I thought was the correct size. I stitched up to the line, when I got out the tape

measure I found it was too small but that was OK now that I needed to add just a bit more round the edge, the stitching made it more like a modern piece so I'm happy with that accident.

I hope all of you are still able to stitch and find inspiration despite this heavy rain we've had for the last couple of days. Its been slow progress as the stitching is really tiny, tent stitch, which is half a cross stitch. I'm really enjoying working on this, so who knows maybe there will be a fancy envelope to match or work on the beading, perhaps a fringe. I will have all weekend to work on this eye so hopefully will get a lot more done, hope you will like this.Faithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06910528414956550663noreply@blogger.com6
